Getting Started

It’s recommended you contact your insurer first, to review behavioral health and member services plans. This can be found on the back of your card. It is strongly recommended that you contact your insurer first to ensure partial or full coverage for care received.

Your insurance company also may ask for personal information about you and your symptoms in order to decide how much treatment will be compensated. Your insurance there are also limitations placed by the insurance company, may include the type of treatment, length of sessions or the amount sessions covered per year. I accept self-pay clients and offer the option to self-pay.

What do I ask my Insurance Company?

  • What is my coverage for outpatient mental health services?
  • Am I covered out of network? At what percent?
  • What is my yearly deductible, and has it been met yet? When does it reset?
  • What is the reimbursement rate for an out-of-network mental health provider for treatment codes 90791 (Initial Evaluation) and 90837 (55 to 60-min psychotherapy)
  • What is National Provider Identifier (NPI) number  for Gentle Mama Counseling? Gentle Mama Counselings NPI number is 1790920114.
  • Is prior authorization required?
  • How many therapy sessions are covered per calendar year?
  • Are there any limits to my coverage?

We highly recommend you have a notepad ready when you call. In addition to the answers to these questions, document the name of the person you spoke to and ask for a reference number for the call, ensuring that your communication with the insurance company is documented on their end as well. Bringing this information to therapy will allow us to help you streamline the payment process as much as possible.
